Welcome To Shared Lines

I am sitting in my home in Northern California during the blue hour. It’s a relatively universal thing, the type of light that comes soon after the sun is gone, a signal of the days winding down. It casts a hue and ambience that I enjoy often more than sunset itself. If you’re not a photographer I’d venture to guess it isn’t something you might think of when you experience it. but it’s something everyone has likely experienced. I know I did in Cleveland, Philadelphia, Rio de Janeiro, and every place else I have called home. Home is funny that way. you wouldn’t likely attribute a lot of similarities between Rio de Janeiro and Cleveland, but living in both they shared plenty. Some of these shared things include the natural elements, others are shared values, cultural features like food or music. Wherever we are may be utterly unique, but each has threads of natural and human dynamics that can be connected to other places.

Shared Lines is a new platform to focus on those familiarities we experience as people and as creatives. I am building this to help others find a new conversation. One that emphasizes the shared humanity and experiences we have when drawing inspiration from our lives and places we call home. Each month I will work to lift the voices of two artists from around the world whose homes shared a simple connection, they are on the same lines of latitude or longitude. By bridging places hundreds or thousands of miles away, I believe that we can learn from one another and build bonds that transcend time as well as space.

Each week we aim to inspire you with stories and reflection on the notion of place. How the ideas of home, the built spaces we inhabit and the natural environment that surround us are influential. Once a month we will bring you an interview with 2 creatives from shared lines of latitude and longitude. I am excited to discover more about myself and the environments that influence us along with you, welcome!
